NHGRI BAC-based Sequencing Program to be Terminated because of Lack of Demand

Washington Fax reported on September 19 that NHGRI staff told the institute's advisory council on September 9 that NHGRI's bacterial artificial chromosome-based gene-sequencing program was to be discontinued for lack of demand. NHGRI initiated the program to sequence individual or small numbers of mouse BAC genes of particularly high biological interest after the mouse genome-sequencing program was initiated in 2000.
