Meharry Medical College Names Dean of School of Medicine

Charles P. Mouton, MD

Charles P. Mouton, MD, has been named as the new dean of the School of Medicine and senior vice president for health affairs at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN. Prior to this appointment, which began July 1 this year, he served as Professor and Chair of the Department of Community and Family Medicine at Howard University in Washington, DC. In his new post, Dr. Mouton will serve as chief academic and administrative officer for the School of Medicine.

Dr. Mouton is board certified in family medicine and geriatrics. His research interests include: health promotion and disease prevention in minority elders; ethnicity and aging; violence and elder mistreatment in older women, and quality end-of-life care. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians and of the American Geriatrics Society. He previously served as Section Chair of the Family Medicine Section of the National Medical Association, and he is a past president of the DC Academy of Family Physicians.

Dr. Mouton earned his undergraduate degree in Engineering at Howard University and his MD at Howard University College of Medicine. He completed residency in family practice at Prince George's Hospital Center in Cheverly, MD, and a geriatrics fellowship at The George Washington Medical Center. He is also an alumnus of Harvard University School of Public Health, where he completed a master's of science degree in Clinical Epidemiology.

University of Colorado Denver Chancellor Steps Down

M. Roy Wilson, MD, stepped down as chancellor of the University of Colorado Denver at the end of June. Jerry Wartgow, former executive director of the Auraria Campus, has been named interim chancellor for the University of Colorado Denver and the Anschutz Medical Campus.
