Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine and Scott & White Healthcare Appoint New Chair of Department of Internal Medicine

Alejandro C. Arroliga, MD, FCCP, FACP, has been appointed as chairman of the Department of Internal Medicine at Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine and Scott & White. Dr. Arroliga, who previously served as interim chair and professor of medicine, will also hold the Dr. A. Ford and Brooksie Neil Boyd Wolf Centennial Endowed Chair in Medicine. He has served on the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine faculty and Scott & White medical staff since 2006, before which he served at the Cleveland Clinic for over a decade. A specialist in pulmonary and critical care medicine, Dr. Arroliga's work has focused on the management of lung diseases and critical care medicine related to acute respiratory failure, pulmonary hypertension, bronchogenic carcinoma, COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), and emphysema.

Dr. Arroliga is an active member of the American Thoracic Society, the American Medical Association, the American College of Physicians, the American College of Chest Physicians, and the Society of Critical Care Medicine. A native of Nicaragua, he has served in medical leadership roles in his home country as well as in the United States. He earned his MD cum laude from Veracruzana University in Veracruz, Mexico, and subsequently completed residency at Coney Island Hospital in New York City and a pulmonary and critical care fellowship at the Yale University School of Medicine. He has authored numerous manuscripts, text chapters, abstracts and reviews.
