The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) has released a revised Research Emphasis Areas document that describes the JDRF scientific priorities in the areas of islet transplant and graft tolerance, renewable beta cell source, regeneration of beta cell function, autoimmunity and prevention, and diabetic complications. The JDRF is committed to spending more than $100 million in the next year to support research relevant to their mission of finding a cure for diabetes and its complications.

The JDRF has also made several changes to their funding mechanisms for the next year. The Advanced Postdoctoral Fellowship award has been reinstated. This program is designed to provide research training to highly qualified and promising biomedical research scientists and to assist them in transitioning from a fellowship to an independent faculty-level position. The award provides $90,000 per year for up to 3 years.
