Education in topics related to women's health has often been insufficient in many internal medicine residency programs. In addition, obstetrics and gynecology training programs are now required to include instruction in areas of primary care. To address both needs, we developed an interdisciplinary monthly noon conference focusing on primary care for women. This project was initiated jointly by the departments of Internal Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynecology. Topics such as headache, contraception, cardiovascular disease, depression, pulmonary disease, and common gynecological problems are discussed. Each topic is presented with an emphasis on considerations that are unique to women patients. Presenters have included faculty from Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Preventive Medicine, Urology, Psychiatry, and Neurology. The conference is regularly attended by housestaff and faculty from both departments.
